OPEN CALL to ALL VISUAL ARTISTS IN THE NYC AREA

Deadline: October 31, 2008

FRAMINGAIDS 2008 -Art Exhibition
Queen’s Annual Observance of World AIDS Day Through the Arts invites all visual artists in the NYC area to submit works (painting, photography, video, installation) for consideration in upcoming annual exhibition to be held from November 30 – December 21, 2008.

This year, the exhibit explores the celebration of life as a unique experience and how it might be constructed and/or perceived after HIV/AIDS. Most people take life for granted until they feel threatened by a terminal illness or an irreversible condition, artists are challenged to inspire themselves on the joy of living juxtaposed to the feelings of loss, change and adaptation.

As part of World AIDS Awareness, QMAD, Queens Media Arts Development, created and has produced FRAMING AIDS since 2005.  The program is intended to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS affecting the communities of Queens, and NYC at large. QMAD is a non-for profit cultural organization whose mission is to encourage Queen’s multicultural communities to actively participate in the forging of an artistic identity for the borough.  Based on one of the city’s most diverse areas, QMAD acknowledges the artistic potential of residents in NYC, and facilitates access to educational activities, cultural events and resources so people participating in the various programs can gain agency in their creative and artistic goals.

How to submit (Read and follow instructions carefully):
